Beagles removed from Ridglan Farms, shelters prep for influx of dogs
CBS 58 BLUE MOUNDS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The beagles at Ridglan Farms will begin being picked up by rescues and taken to shelters across the country. It's a story that has garnered national attention.
The Dane County Humane Society will be processing 500 of the dogs. Of those, 150 will be going to the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS), which has locations in Milwaukee and across the state.
They are preparing for the dogs by purchasing more crates, puppy pads, toys and food.
They are also in need of fosters who are willing to take the dogs in.
So far, they have around 100 fosters ready to go. Those who are interested in fostering of the dogs should be prepared for some unique challenges.
"When dogs are housed in research facilities, they may never have worn a collar or a leash. House training will be new for them. Simply walking in the grass and enjoying the sunshine. Couches, blankets, being held may be all new experiences for them. And it will take a lot of time and patience," said Angela Speed, the vice president of marketing and communications for the WHS.
WHS expects to be picking up some of the dogs on Monday, May 11, and then another group the following day.
Some of them could be available for adoption as soon as the end of the week depending on their condition.
