MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Today was the supposed to be the start of a trial for a security guard charged with shooting and killing a man at a Milwaukee gas station, because he stole a package of snack cakes. However, that trial was delayed.
Tuesday's jury trial for 53-year-old William Pinkin was adjourned because he was unable to appear from the detention facility.
Pinkin is charged with killing 29-year-old Isiah Allen in August of 2023 at a gas station on the corner of Teutonia and Roosevelt, where Pinkin was employed as a security guard at the time.
The criminal complaint says Allen took a box of Little Debbie Zebra Cakes and started to leave. Security video shows Pinkin pull out a handgun, chase Allen, and shoot him in the head.
Pinkin was previously convicted as a felon and couldn't legally own a handgun.
In October of 2023, the gas station -- Teutonia Gas and Food -- had their license revoked due to the incident.
Pinkin's next hearing is a status conference on Feb. 28.
