WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A handful of Wisconsinites are back home after being trapped in Mexico during a violent weekend of unrest.

It was sparked by the death of a high-profile cartel leader, setting off a chaotic chain reaction.

We caught up with the people landing at Mitchell International, who call their experience a shock.

"Our hotel room overlooks the city, and all of a sudden when you looked out, there was black plumes of explosions everywhere going on, and we weren't exactly sure what was happening."

Meanwhile, in Mexico, officials say calm has been restored, for the most part.

But the State Department is still urging anyone with plans to travel to Mexico to start rethinking their plans.
