WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Tommy Thompson officially took over Wednesday, July 1, as president of the University of Wisconsin System.
The Board of Regents reached out to the former governor last month after its search for a replacement for outgoing president, Ray Cross, turned up only one candidate who eventually withdrew from consideration.
Thompson recorded a message Wednesday saying the state has no better asset than the UW System.
"I'm gonna be its biggest advocate, cheerleader, and also its toughest evaluator to make sure we're doing the job correctly," Thompson said. "And we're going to need your help."
Thompson has set up a "listening post," where people can ask questions and share ideas and suggestions.
