Three-car accident claims the life of one in Dane County

Madison, WI (CBS 58) A three-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon led to the death of a driver in Cottage Grove, officials say.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. Several agencies in the area responded to a call for a three-vehicle, injury crash in the area of US Highway 12 and County Highway AB in the Town of Cottage Grove.

According to the initial investigation, a 2008 Dodge Ram truck was traveling north on County Highway AB, stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of County Highway AB and US Highway 12 and then continued north where it struck a 2005 Toyota Prius that was driving west on US Highway 12.

Due to the crash, the Dodge Ram spun around and collided with a 2006 Buick Lucerne that was stopped at the stop sign at southbound County Highway AB at US Highway 12. 

Authorities say the driver of the Toyota Prius was injured severely from the crash and was taken by UW Med Flight to UW Hospital, but was pronounced deceased. The Prius also contained a 20-year-old passenger, who was taken to an area hospital by EMS for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The roads near the accident were closed for five hours for the investigation. Authorities will continue to investigate the crash. The name of the deceased individual will be released by the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office after the family has been notified.
