MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The lakefront was jammed with people and animals on Saturday.
It was the 7th annual Pet Walk to benefit the Wisconsin Humane Society.
More than a thousand dogs and their owners filled Veterans Park.
The Humane Society says that it is events like that which keep their operation running.
"We don't receive any type of general government funding, and we're not part of national umbrella group, we are truly a local non-profit so we depend on animal lovers in the community and on events like today's pet walk to support all of our life-saving care for animals," said Angela Speed with the Wisconsin Humane Society.
Since it started in 2013, The Pet Walk has raised more than $1.5 million.
