"This is symbolic:" MPS Back to School Run held at Washington Park

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The weather was great this weekend to get outside and get moving.

That's what a lot of people did at the '12th Annual MPS Run Back to School.' It was a 5K fun run and a 1.5 mile walk through Washington park.

The goal was to promote the importance of regular exercise while raising funds for MPS youth recreation programs.

"This is symbolic because we are running today, but we are gonna be running all year long for our children to achieve levels of academic attainment," said Supt. Keith Posley with Milwaukee Public Schools.

First, second, and third place awards were given to the top man and woman as well as youth finishers for the 5K run.

Every child received a participation medal.
