MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The city says The Hop has been re-railed and full, regular service has resumed following a crash with a garbage truck Monday morning.

Since the streetcar system is a federal rail transit agency, an internal investigation is taking place in addition to an investigation conducted by Milwaukee police.

Officials say the streetcar operator involved in the collision was released from the hospital Monday and is recovering at home.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's streetcar, The Hop, was involved in a crash with a garbage truck Monday morning, March 27.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. near Milwaukee and Wells -- causing The Hop to derail.

Police say the only person reported hurt was the female driver of the streetcar. She was the only occupant on the transit system at the time of the crash.

Officials say the privately-owned garbage truck T-boned into the streetcar.

The crash temporarily suspended all Hop services and closed down the intersection.

DPW says the streetcar was rerailed Monday night and taken back to the operations and maintenance facility.

Authorities are working to learn what led up to the crash.
