The annual Briggs and Al's Run and Walk for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is Saturday, September 19th

Milwaukee -

This Saturday a tradition started by beloved Marquette Basketball Coach Al McGuire continues at 12th and Wisconsin.

The run/walk to benefit Children's Hospital of Wisconsin will be filled with Children's Champions. Little patients who have overcome great odds and whose spirits to continue the fight will be lifted as they pass cheering spectators along the route to the Summerfest Grounds.

A special celebration at the end of the route will feature American Idol Winner Chris Allen.

John Stewart of the Children's Hospital of WI Foundation was a special guest on the CBS 58 News at 4 p.m.

"Coach Al McGuire 38 years ago wanted to make a difference for the kids at Children's Hospital," explained Stewart. "It started very small and grew into a size of over 30,000 while he was still associated with the run."

There is still time to register. In fact you can do so on the morning of the run/walk. But he also invited spectators to come out and see the family teams.

Stewart says the sense of community, especially when the Children's Champions are introduced is one of his favorite things to witness as Vice President of the Children's foundation.

"The community sees what promise children have if given the chance.  If they've got medical issues, we can help solve those.  Get them back in the community, so they can play and be a part of what's going on."
