MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Volunteers trained in Milwaukee Saturday to help those after disaster strikes. Team Rubicon is a veteran-led group first created after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
Many members use the skills they learned in military service to help.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett attended the event and said the group helps give veterans a sense of purpose once they leave active duty, “They want to give back to the community and this gives them an opportunity once their military careers are done to continue to do so. But it is in no way limited to that. Again you saw a great cross section of men and women, different ages, people who really understand that communities are stronger and we're stronger when we help people in need."
One of original founders of Team Rubicon is Jake Wood, a former Badgers football player and U.S. Marine. Nearly 85,000 members are part of the organization across the country.
