Taxi Drivers Plan to Strike

Taxi service around Milwaukee and the airport could be disrupted this morning because area taxi drivers say they're planning a strike.

CBS 58 talked to the vice president of the Southeast Wisconsin Taxi Drivers Association who said the association is protesting against ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft.

Mitchell International Airport now allows Uber and Lyft to pick up customers from the airport.

Local taxi officials said those services are cutting into their business by as much as 90%.

Harpreet Singh tells CBS 58 the ride sharing drivers have an unfair advantage because they are unregulated and they work on their off hours.

Singh says taxi drivers are required to do background checks and drug tests.

They also have to carry expensive permits and insurance which he says cuts into their bottom line.

Singh is urging people to support local taxi drivers.
