Target investigating security breach

Target is investigating a security breach that could have compromised the credit card and bank information of millions of customers.

The website Krebs on Security quotes investigators that say the breach started on Black Friday, and may have lasted until December 15th.  The stolen information is called \"track data,\" and could be used by criminals to make a counterfeit debit or credit card.  The breach happened inside Target stores, online purchases are not affected.

The Wall Street Journal says the U.S. Secret Service is investigating, and could be one of the largest retail security breaches to date.

We placed calls to the Milwaukee Secret Service office, and the Target corporate office.  Neither call was returned.

If you have used plastic to make a purchase since Black Friday, pay special attention to your bank or credit card account.  If there is a purchase on your statement that you didn't make, contact your bank or credit card company immediately.
