Suspect Dead After Exchanging Fire with Police in West Allis

A suspect is dead after initially firing at a West Allis Police officer after being pulled over near 61st and Burnham in West Allis.

The situation started at around 1:15 a.m. Saturday when a West Allis Police officer tried to stop a vehicle in the 6100 block of West Burnham that was believed to be involved in an armed robbery of a business a few minutes earlier. A suspect inside the vehicle immediately fired a weapon at the West Allis officer, but the gunfire did not hit the officer.

Mutual aid from nearby police departments responded to the incident. Several minutes later, the suspect was located hiding near a closed business in the area of 60th and Beloit.

Officers from West Allis and New Berlin Police Departments discharged their weapons at the suspect, and he was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.

No officers were hit by gunfire or injured in this incident. A police presence remains at several scenes im the area, but police are no longer looking for any suspects in this area.
