MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee high school students were treated to a morning at city hall on Thursday, April 3.
There, the students were able to learn more about career opportunities in different skilled trades positions.
Attendees met with various employers and unions in the trades to hear what it takes to land an apprenticeship, and why that particular may or may be the right choice or them, or why it may not be.
"It's amazingly important for young people to start to get guidance on any occupation they may want to pursue. And I always tell young people, it's even more important to know what you don't want to do," said David Polk, apprenticeship director with the Wis. Dept. of Workforce Development. "For them to get hands on and talk to the people that do this work. It's a wonderful opportunity for the young people who were able to come out today."
Today's event featured about 100 students and a dozen groups offering apprenticeships.
