MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Many of us are getting to spend time with friends and family for Thanksgiving, but what about our four-legged friends?
The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) teamed up with Stella & Chewy's pet food to host a local "Furry Friendsgiving" event.
Stella & Chewy's, based in Oak Creek, is also donating nearly 500,000 pounds of food and treats to shelters across the country, including Milwaukee-area shelters, a donation that couldn't be more timely.
"[This year] has been really, really hard here at MADACC, we've had a really, really steep increase in dogs and cats coming in to do the shelter, and we do rely entirely on donations for our food budget. So for us this is a really huge donation that's going to help keep our pets here at the shelter not only fed, but fed with really high quality food," said Kathy Shillinglaw, volunteer and outreach coordinator.
The animals were able to enjoy their Thanksgiving feast, playtime, photo ops, and take part in public meet and greets. Events for the people included a raffle and arts and crafts station.
