ST. FRANCIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Southeastern Wisconsin now faces cleanup from the devastating floods, and some football players from St. Francis are stepping up off the field.

A group of players went to their teacher's house Wednesday morning to help her as she had over 3 feet of water in her basement.

Nikki Schuster has taught at St. Francis for 26 years and got a call from her school district asking if she wanted help, "it was very very heartwarming that the district reached out, saying students could help. I couldn’t say no."

She tells us that on Saturday night, when water came flooding in from the windows, she felt "hopeless" remembering the same thing happening back in 2010.

As the last weeks of summer break come to an end, she now wonders if she'll be done in time for school to start.

"Am I going to be ready to go back to school? I probably will, it's in a week or so, you just don't know how long this is going to take," Schuster said. "It's day three or day four and I already wish I could have my life back."

"She's our teacher, she's part of our community," said Josh Nelson, captain of the St. Francis football team. "We help those out in our community. Who wouldn't help?" Nelson says "servant leadership" is something they learn throughout the school year, where they focus on community and classmates. He says he feels "great. It helps us get better each and every day."

Schuster says her furnace, A/C, and water heater are all broken. She estimates it will be thousands of dollars out of her own pocket to replace.
