South Milwaukee Fire Department investigating house fire that displaced family

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The South Milwaukee Fire Department (SMFD) is investigating a house fire that displaced a family. 

It happened at a house on Sherman Ave around 9:17 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15.

The SMFD arrived at the home to find an attached garage fully engulfed. The fire was extending through the breezeway into the house.

The occupants reported smelling smoke, discovering the fire, and evacuating everyone out of the house.

According the the SMFD, the fire was quickly knocked down and extensive overhaul operations took place.

The fire caused extensive damage to the entire structure, but no injuries were reported. 

The American Red Cross was called for the displaced occupants.

The fire is currently under investigation by the SMFD.

Following the fire, the SMFD is reminding everyone in a Facebook post to install and maintain working smoke alarms.
