Some sunshine returns for the weekend

Low clouds continue to linger over the Badger State today thanks to a slowly departing low pressure system. The clouds will eventually begin to clear out late this afternoon and evening, but they'll hold temps in the 60s for highs once again today.

High pressure will bring lots of sunshine to the region on Saturday, which will help temps warm back into the low 70s. Unfortunately the sunshine won't last all weekend. Clouds start pushing back into the area Saturday night with a mix of sun and clouds expected on Sunday. There's a very small chance for an isolated shower on Sunday, but the lingering dry air from the high pressure system should cause most of them to evaporate.

A better chance for showers returns on Monday as a low pressure system tracks across the Great Lakes. You'll want to keep the umbrella handy because scattered shower will be possible off and on throughout the day. With the upper level low slow to depart, we may have a few lingering light showers on Tuesday as well.

Right now it looks like most of the area could pick up .10-.30" of rain with locally higher totals possible near the Illinois border. We do need the rain as drought conditions are starting to worsen once again.

We only picked up 8.75" during the summer and are running about 7" below normal since the beginning of April.
