UPDATE: SHOREWOOD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Shorewood Police Department has taken a suspect into custody for allegedly stealing resident's credit cards and purses.
The investigation remains ongoing.
------
SHOREWOOD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Shorewood police are looking for a man who they say lies to get into people’s houses to steal credit cards and purses.
A home on Farwell was hit Wednesday.
Police say the suspect, who uses the name ‘Detrell’, goes door to door soliciting money for Victory Church, with which he has no affiliation. He also may ask to use the bathroom.
When he gets inside, officers say he distracts the victim and takes valuables.
Neighbors on Farwell are keeping each other aware through a neighborhood group text.
“It spread like wildfire,” Tony Spencer said.
Wendy Wallace, another neighbor, said it’s frightening and she hopes her daughter home from college is aware enough to not let anybody in the house.
Police say sometimes the man is with a young child.
Multiple agencies are looking for the suspect because police say he’s committed crimes like this in several places.
