'Pray for everyone:' Residents of Mayville apartment complex react to shootings
DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Residents in a Mayville apartment complex are reacting a day after three people were shot.
“I don't feel safe anymore, I don't either,” Spring Glen apartments residents Diane Diels and Charmina Barrientes said as they embraced each other on Tuesday, September 17.
Three people were shot at the Spring Glen Apartments, a senior living facility, in Mayville Wednesday, September 16. The gunman was also shot. The four were transported by Flight for Life to local trauma centers.
"We're friends. We're neighbors. It's very community oriented,” Diels said.
One of the victims was Barrientes' close relative, Cindy Sell.
"She's my aunt. She's my godmother,” Barrientes said.
Diels was home when the shootings happened and saw Sell.
"All I could keep seeing when I tried to go to sleep last night was her laying there on the ground and them telling me I couldn't come outside and then they were like this is a shooting,” Diels said. "These are all people that I love here and I like them and I love being here. I don't understand why because it seems like everybody gets along."
The two have a message and request to the community.
"Just pray for the ones that got hurt. Please pray for everyone here and maybe even the person that did the shooting,” Diels and Barrientes said together.
The names of the victims and the suspected shooter have not been released by authorities.
