Sheriff David Clarke issues travel warning to Labor Day drivers

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- We're closing in on a busy travel weekend.



The Wisconsin DOT says 10 people died in traffic crashes on Labor Day weekend last year.



This year, law enforcement wants that number to be zero.



A big part of the enforcement will be drunk drivers.



Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said last Labor Day 28 people were arrested, four of whom were involved in crashes.



In addition to drunk driving, extra deputies will patrol the roads to crack down on distracted driving, speeding and seat belt usage.



Clarke also stressed the importance of the \"move over\" law. He said 12 squad cars have been hit by cars while deputies were making traffic stops on the highway.



He said more than 700,000 people in Wisconsin will travel in their car to celebrate the holiday.



AAA says more than 35 million Americans are expected to crowd roads for Labor Day, that's the highest number since before the recession in 2008.
