MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Three people were arrested early Wednesday morning after an Uber driver's car was stolen right in front of him.
The theft led to a police chase that ended in downtown Milwaukee.
Milwaukee Police say the pursuit ended when the car's axle broke near Wisconsin Avenue and James Lovell.
The car belongs to an Uber driver who says he picked up a couple at Potawatomi Hotel and Casino early Wednesday morning and drove them to George Webb Restaurant on Old World 3rd Street to eat.
He says he waited inside the restaurant for them to eat and left his fob key in his glove compartment. That's when he saw someone drive away in his car at 2:45 a.m. and he called police immediately.
Milwaukee Police spotted the driver of the stolen car driving recklessly southbound on North 12th Street from West Juneau Avenue. Police tried to pull the driver over but the driver fled and a chase began.
The car came to a stop when the axle broke and police were able to arrest the three people inside the car.
The Uber driver says he couldn't believe it.
"There was a car parked parallel to my Regal. I said there's a car parked. I don't know. Like, suddenly I saw my car back up. I said how? So I ran out and I don't know guy or woman or whatever. I couldn't see. He sped away," the Uber driver, Manminder Scthi said.
The driver says he wants to prosecute the suspects to the fullest extent of the law.
