Serial Alcohol Thief Arrested after High Speed Chase in Madison
A Madison woman, accused of being a serial alcohol thief, was arrested Saturday night after she abandoned her getaway car following a short police chase that was quickly terminated for safety reasons.
According to a release from Madison Police, the woman allegedly took two bottles of high-end liquor from a Target and departed without paying.
A private security guard called in the license plate of the car in which she fled and a responding officer spotted it on East Towne Way.
The suspect sped around the mall, running a stop sign, before heading south on Zeier Rd. where she blew a red light.
After the officer turned off his lights and siren she hit speeds of 65 mph on a city road.
After stopping her car the suspect took off on foot, but was located shortly thereafter by another officer.
A passenger in the car, a 22-year-old man, was arrested for being party to the crime of retail theft.
The female suspect is facing numerous tentative charges and citations, including a warrant for six similar liquor thefts from the Lien Rd. Target.
The total value of the stolen liquor – in the seven cases - is around $1,800.
