Sendik's donating $204K to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A local grocer is donating tens of thousands of dollars to help give more than 150 local veterans the experience of a lifetime.

Sendik's Food Markets says they will make a $204,000 donation to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, Inc. which flies local veterans to Washington D.C. to see their memorials and experience a day of honor and thanks.

The funds were raised in three months at Sendik's when customers bought $1 American Flags, Sendik's Real Food Magazine, specially marked "Honor Flight" items or rounded up their total to the nearest dollar. The money from the donation will be used to fly two planes of veterans on Saturday, September 7.

The flights will carry 169 World War II, Korean War and Vietnam-era veterans.
