MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A semi-trailer fire forced a full closure of Interstate 43 northbound at Hampton Ave. overnight after flames spread beyond the trailer, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

MCSO decided that a complete closure was necessary early Wednesday, July 9 after the trailer became fully engulfed. The closure began at 2:23 a.m. forcing all traffic off I-43 northbound at the Hampton Ave. offramp.

Milwaukee Fire Department responders removed a section of chain link fence to reach a hydrant on the east side of Port Washington Road.

Glendale police closed north and southbound lanes on Port Washington Rd. while crews worked to extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported.
