WISCONSIN DELLS, WI (CBS 58) – Recovery efforts are underway along I-90/94 at Mirror Lake where a semi-trailer truck has crashed into the lake.   According to the State Patrol, the east bound semi  left the roadway and plunged down a 107-foot cliff coming to rest on the frozen surface of Mirror Lake.   The trailer is resting on the ice, but the tractor is completely submerged in the lake.   Officials have not been able to locate the driver of the semi.   Recovery efforts by Lake Delton and Sauk County EMS are underway but say, at this point, there is no sign of life.

According to a news release, a damaged guardrail was discovered around 7:30 AM this morning and wheel tracks lead directly to the cliff and the lake below.      The State Patrol said both lanes of the interstate are closed so the semi-tractor can be pulled from the lake.   The WI Department of Natural Resources are cleaning up any diesel fuel spilled into the lake.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.   Authorities say it was snowing at the time of the accident.   The registered home of the semi-trailer truck  has not yet been determined.
