MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — A Milwaukee security guard has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of extended supervision for fatally shooting a 29-year-old man accused of stealing snack cakes from a gas station.

William Pinkins, 59, was sentenced Thursday after a jury found him guilty Feb. 17 of first-degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Pinkins received life in prison without eligibility for extended supervision on the homicide charge. He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of extended supervision on the firearm charge.

The sentences will be served consecutively, and Pinkins will not receive credit for time already served.

The shooting happened in August 2023 at Teutonia Gas and Food.

Investigators said 29-year-old Isaiah Allen entered the store, took a box of snack cakes and began to leave.

Surveillance video showed Pinkins grab a handgun, chase Allen and shoot him in the head, according to investigators.

Pinkins remained at the scene and initially told investigators he had not witnessed the shooting before leaving. He turned himself in two days later.

Pinkins was previously convicted of first-degree reckless homicide in 1990. Prosecutors said he had been out of prison for about five months when he killed Allen.
