MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee woman and several others won free tickets to Sunday's Packers playoff game.

The seats were part of a contest organized by Steve Ewing, a season ticket holder. He decided to give them to the fans who deserved them the most.

One of the winners was Patty Slater from Milwaukee, who was fulfilling her father, Jerome Wazhniak's, dying wish to attend the game.

Slater says Wazhniak was a military veteran and a die-hard Packers fan who never made it to Lambeau Field in his life.

Wazhniak shared the story with Ewing, who selected her and gave her the pair of tickets Saturday.

"I know my dad's here with me, and it's something I promised, and with [Ewing's] help, I'm here today," Slater said Sunday.

Ewing says about 250 people submitted entries, and he and his brother spent hours reading them.

Six pairs of tickets were given away in all, including to a little girl with a terminal illness and two siblings with cancer.

Slater was overcome with gratefulness for the giveaway.

"This is crazy," she said. "I've never seen so many people and the excitement. I know they're smiling above."

It was Slater's first time at Lambeau too.

The Packers will play the San Francisco 49ers next in the NFC Championship with a Super Bowl berth on the line.
