OSHKOSH, Wis. (CBS 58) -- U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy was at the EAA AirVenture festival Tuesday, July 22.
Duffy announced a set of new regulations he says will make recreational flying easier.
The program is called Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification -- known as MOSAIC.
Duffy says it's the first time rules have been changed in the last 20 years.
The FAA is removing the weight limit for light sport planes and referring to performance rate limits.
"Getting this done is critical for this administration, for the president, for me, for the FAA," Duffy said. "You will not see a skip in the beat in all that we're doing to make sure that we come back next year. We'll double the crowd and you guys will be incredibly pleased at the progress we've made."
The new rules will let recreational planes hit higher speeds and more seats inside the cabin.
