Summer is now over for many kids in the Milwaukee area. Some 40 MPS schools are doing the early start calendar this year.
That means that their summers start around Memorial Day which allows students who want, to get an edge to attend an extra "J" term in June.
"They can do credit recovery, accelerated courses, they can participate in internships, they also have a chance to do service learning and community service," said Dr. Darienne Driver, Superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools.
For the other MPS schools that follow the traditional calendar, the first day of classes for them is September 5th.
