Rev-Up MKE: 11 local finalists participate in small business pitch competition
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Nearly a dozen small businesses took part in an expo-style format showcasing their business ideas to the community Wednesday, Sept. 16, before making a pitch to a panel of judges.
Organizers say the annual "Rev-Up MKE" event was built from the entrepreneurial spirit of Harley-Davidson. Eleven finalists shared their ideas and plans with judges and event attendees at The Rave/Eagles Ballroom.
The winner, Christina Lopez-Prado with children's apparel company Casita Prado, was announced as this year's winner. The grand prize includes a cash prize and a pop-up spot at Concordia 27.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity to have a home base,” said Lopez-Prado. “We love the Near West Side and how it is a connector throughout Milwaukee.”
"There are so many people who live here who have great ideas, great business ideas, and what they need is just a little technical assistance, a little bit of a push, a little bit of hand to take that business to the next level," said Near West Side Partners Executive Director Lindsey St. Arnold Bell.
More than 60 businesses have opened over the last 11 years on Milwaukee's Near West Side.
Rev-Up MKE is the flagship event of Near West Side Week, which runs through Saturday, Sept. 19. For more information, click here.
