Residents forced to vacate city owned property

Milwaukee -- Some residents at a mobile home park on the city's south side are scrambling to find a new place to live after being told their homes are uninhabitable.

\"We lived here six years, how are we going to pack everything up and find a place and get out within 24 hours,\" asked Displaced Resident Kitty Wuerl.

According to Alderman Terry Witkowski, who represents Milwaukee's 13th District, at least three of the trailers at Evergreen Court were found to be unsafe for residents.

Witkowski told CBS 58, the city took possession of the property in foreclosure back in August.  The previous owner was more than $300,000 behind in taxes.  He also said, the owner appeared before a Common Council judiciary legislative committee to request to pay the taxes and other fees but when the due date came the money still was not paid.

\"What started to occur last week then was our teams of inspectors, electrical inspectors, and plumbing inspectors began to inspect what is now a city owned facility,\" explained Witkowski.

A notice on one of the mobile homes cited, electrical, heating and plumbing problems.  A look at online court records show the property has multiple code violations.
