Rare panda birth in captivity

GUANGZHOU, CHINA-Officials now confirming the birth of triplets to a giant panda named Juxiao.

The birth apparently happened two weeks ago, but the zoo didn't want to public until it was sure the cubs would survive.

The Chinese say the triplets were only the fourth known to have been born in the world through artificial breeding.

There are no names for the cubs.

At first the babies were put into incubators, but now that the mother has regained her strength, they have been returned to her.

They appear to be nursing as you would expect.

Panda experts say they believe the trio is not old enough to be officially recognized as surviving and that they are believed to be the only known panda triplets alive in the world today.
