Racine woman arrested after daughter, 3, found wandering alone in neighborhood

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Racine woman is facing charges after police say a neighbor found a 3-year-old girl wandering alone in the neighborhood.

Melissa Thomas, 30, is charged with three counts of neglecting a child.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to the 1800 block of Franklin Street for a report of a woman who left her 3-year-old and 2-year-old daughter alone in her home.

A neighbor had allegedly found the 3-year-old wandering alone and brought her back to the home.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with a woman who said Thomas had been leaving her children alone unsupervised since they were born.

The investigation remains ongoing.
