Racine mother charged after crashing car into fence, leaving behind injured 9-year-old daughter

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Racine mother is facing charges after police say she crashed her car into a fence and left behind her injured 9-year-old daughter.

Tywasher Kent, 26, is facing charges of hit and run causing and injury and neglecting a child.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to the area of 13th Street and Racine Street on Thursday for a report of a hit and run crash causing injury.

Officers spoke with a man who said he was driving south on Racine Street when a GMC vehicle struck another Chrysler vehicle and the Chrysler vehicle then struck his before continuing on, hitting a fence.

The man told police that the operator of the Chrysler fled the scene, leaving her child behind.

The child, identified as a 9-year-old girl, was treated for injuries by a rescue staff on scene before being taken to a local hospital. The girl told police she was driving with her mom when their car was struck. The girl's mother allegedly told her that someone was coming for her before she fled the scene.

Officers made contact with Kent, the girl's mother, who admitted to being in the accident and leaving her daughter behind because she thought she was going to jail.

Another man who also fled the scene of the accident was charged.
