Racine & Me: Racine Starving Artist Fair returns August 2 with more than 130 artists

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Starving Artist Fair is returning to the historic DeKoven Center on Sunday, August 2, bringing together more than 130 artists for the largest juried art fair in Racine, Kenosha, and Walworth counties.

The fair runs rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DeKoven Center, located across from Lake Michigan at 21st Street. To make getting there easier, free shuttle buses will run from neighborhood street parking and the Racine Campus of Gateway Technical College shuttle lot.

Visitors can browse artwork in a wide variety of mediums, including painting, photography, ceramics, wood, printmaking, glass, fiber, mixed media, jewelry, and more. About one-quarter of the featured artists are from Racine County, while nearly three-quarters travel from other Wisconsin communities, with additional artists coming from Illinois and Michigan.

The event also offers plenty for families to enjoy, including a free children's art project area, food trucks, and live musical performances throughout the day from two locations within the fair.

Beyond celebrating local and regional artists, the Starving Artist Fair also gives back to the community. Proceeds from the event help fund scholarships for Racine County art students.
