RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- A local nonprofit is turning community support into global change.

Changing A Destiny is gearing up for its annual fundraiser on May 9, 2026, bringing a full day of events to downtown Waterford—all aimed at supporting families both close to home and across the globe.

The day begins with a 5K Run/Walk at 9:00 a.m., open to participants of all ages and fitness levels. Whether running or walking, the event offers a chance to come together for a meaningful cause. Registration includes a T-shirt and goodie bag.

From 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Wine, Beer & Craft Walk takes over downtown Waterford. Participants receive a commemorative glass, a goodie bag, and access to 14 tasting locations. This year also features a new craft market, giving attendees the opportunity to shop local vendors while enjoying the event.

Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door for either event. They can be purchased online at ChangingADestiny.org or in person at KK Photography, located at 300 East Main Street in Waterford.

Proceeds support efforts both locally and internationally. A portion of funds raised benefits Life Choices in Burlington, helping families and individuals in need right here in the community.

Internationally, the organization is celebrating a major milestone—the Changing A Destiny Academy in Kenya is now fully built, expanding access to education for children in the region. In addition, a new medical center is now fully funded thanks to an independent donor, which will help bring much-needed healthcare resources to the community.

The organization is also continuing its shoe drive, accepting new or gently used shoes. Donations can be dropped off at KK Photography and will support ongoing efforts both locally and abroad.

With a day full of activity and a mission that stretches far beyond southeast Wisconsin, Changing A Destiny is inviting the community to step up—and make a difference.
