Racine & Me August 6, 2017: The Family of DJ Neal, the County Fair’s Grand Champion Hog, and the Primrose Painter
Jacob Kittilstad welcomed into the studio the family of DJ Neal - the 14-year-old boy who drowned in the Root River on the Fourth of July. His family says they are taking it day-by-day after DJ’s death. They are also relying on the support of community members to help them through this time of grieving, mourning, and acceptance. Dickie’s Bar in Mt. Pleasant will be hosting a benefit for the family in the coming week. Click here to learn more about the event
The Racine County Fair has wrapped up for the year and Spartacus is your 2017 Grand Champion Overall Hog! The Wisnefski Family raised the animal and talk about their strategies raising the pig and preparing for themselves for show. The Racine County Fair’s hog project is the most entered category at the far – with more than 200 hogs competing.
And an 81-year-old woman living at the Primrose Retirement Community in Mt. Pleasant is more notorious than people might realize – she’s actually an extremely accomplished painter who’s been recognized by both Racine County and Wisconsin art organizations. Because it is American Artist Appreciation Month, Jacob took a deep dive into her artwork and inspirations – discussing it all in-studio. Click here to learn more about the artist
