Boat catches fire at 5th Street Boat Launch in Racine

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Fire Department responded to a boat fire at the 5th Street Boat Launch shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The boat was in the water and attached to the launch pier when firefighters arrived.

Crews used foam to extinguish 20-foot flames, and the fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes.

Fishermen were able to get off the boat without any injuries. The boat did contain 25 gallons of fuel, and the fire department was able to contain a small spill which the DNR and Coast Guard were notified of.

The owner was able to trailer his boat and remove it from the lake.

The cause of the fire has not been provided at this time.
