Racine Fire Department reminding citizens to shovel out fire hydrants

RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Fire Department is asking the community for help.

The fire department is asking that residents remove the snow within three-feet around the hydrant to facilitate quicker access to the water that is used for fire fighting.

"Having an accessible fire hydrant significantly improves the time it takes to get water to the Engine and subsequently on the fire," the fire department said in a release.

During the cold temperatures, the Racine Fire Department is asking citizens to remember to only use space heaters while they're awake.

Anyone with questions is asked to call the Racine Fire Department.
