Proposal requests wanted for Milwaukee Active Streets 2021

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) announced Monday, Feb. 15, they are seeking proposals from community-based organizations for the Milwaukee Active Streets 2021 program.

Milwaukee Active Streets is an initiative to increase space for people to walk, bike, and be active while maintaining physical distance during the pandemic.

According to a news release from the Milwaukee DPW, organizations will propose an Active Street location and receive up to $5,000 to conduct outreach and programing, monitor Active Streets-related infrastructure, and provide community feedback to DPW.

Proposals are due by Friday, March 12 at 5 p.m.

The Milwaukee Active Streets 2021 program builds on the success of DPW’s 2020 partnership with Milwaukee County Parks, the release says.

The Milwaukee DPW says, a survey conducted at the conclusion of the 2020 program found that 72% of respondents supported continuing the program beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

Application materials, preliminary results from the 2020 survey and more information can be found on the project website HERE

Please note, Milwaukee Active Streets differs from the Active Streets for Business program which creates additional outdoor spaces for bars and restaurants.
