Present Music's 'Cello Cello' to feature debut performances in concert

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's music landscape will feature Present Music's "Cello Cello" on Wednesday, Jan. 31 and Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, at the Jan Serr Studio.

Present Music, a Milwaukee-based music ensemble, is known for bringing over 70 new works to life since its founding in 1982. "Cello Cell" will include two world premieres from composers and performers who have previously garnered attention in the music industry.

One of the pieces, "Raise," created by Pamela Z, is designed for solo voice and electronic processing, written for cellist Grammy-winning cellist Nick Photinos and three additional cellists.

Paul Wiancko of the Kronos Quartet, another composer featured at the event, will premiere a sextet. His composition, commissioned by Present Music, will be performed along with other works.

The concert is set to conclude with an interactive piece titled "Hooting and Drinking Machine," followed by an opportunity for audience engagement with the artists.
