Portage County passes out free tick removal kits

PORTAGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Portage County in central Wisconsin is getting serious about ticks this summer.

Portage County Health and Human Services passed out up to 200 free tick removal kits for anyone who might want them.

According to the county, lyme diseases have been on a steady increase over the past few years.

They say it's a good reason to practice prevention.

"Really in order to get the kit, people just complete a really brief, four question survey but then we welcome them to ask us any questions about lyme disease or the proper way to remove a tick. We heard some very creative ways."

The kit includes tweezers, wipes, and bandaids.

Supplies were given out on a first-come first-serve basis.
