MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say a man fired a gun in his sleep and shot a woman near 8th and Burnham Tuesday night, Jan. 19. 

The call to officials came in around 11:50 p.m.

Police say the suspect, a 35-year-old Milwaukee man, obtained and fired a handgun "in his sleep" and subsequently struck the victim. 

The 29-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. 

The suspect was arrested. Police say charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. 

An investigation is ongoing.
