Police Actively Searching for Missing Kayaker

Port Washington Police Department confirms that fire and rescue is actively searching for a missing kayaker. 

The kayaker was last seen in Lake Michigan. 

Water temperature is around 40 degrees. 

Winds as of 5:00 PM were 30 MPH and waves were 5 to 8-feet high. 

Ozaukee Count Joint Dispatch received a call around 4:45 PM of a subject who had been kayaking off of South Beach in the city of Port Washington. Information received was that two male subjects had gone out in kayaks; one was now back on shore. The location of the second individual is not known.

Port Washington Officers were dispatched and a Port Washington Police Officer came across one adult male who had made it to shore on the south side of Coal Dock Park and appeared to be suffering from exposure. That individual was transported for medical treatment.


Search and rescue efforts by the Port Washington Fire Department are currently underway for the second individual. The US Coast Guard has also been notified and is responding to assist.
