MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) received a big donation Thursday, Jan. 26.
Pick 'n Save and Metro Markets donated three pallets of Birdie & Louie cat food. That's almost 13,000 cans, worth about $16,500.
It arrived at the WHS Milwaukee campus on 45th and Wisconsin Avenue.
"If you are having a rough patch in your life, the last thing you want to do is lose your pet because you can't feed it," said Gina Micheli, facilities manager for the Wisconsin Humane Society. "We support people staying with their animals and we want to do whatever we can to make that happen."
The food will be donated to families in need through the humane society's Furry Friends Food Pantry. Micheli says the donation will last a couple of weeks.
The pantry is open seven days a week. For more information on how to get food for your pet or donate, CLICK HERE.
