Another round of freezing fog to make roads slippery again tonight through Monday morning
Updated 8:30 pm Sunday January 3rd:
The Dense Fog Advisory has been expanded to include the lakeshore counties. The advisory still runs through noon on Monday.
Visibilities have already tanked below a mile in spots away from the lake with visibility expected to drop lakeside over the next couple of hours.
With temperatures in the 20s, slippery stretch are already being reported along I-94 from Milwaukee to Lake Mills due to freezing fog. Freezing fog will continue to create black ice on any untreated surface tonight into the Monday morning commute. Bridges and overpasses are most susceptible to icing.
Drive with caution tonight through Monday morning!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Freezing fog in northern locations and a dusting of snow + freezing drizzle from Milwaukee southward created some icy spots earlier this morning. The low clouds were stubborn for most of the area, but there was a nice area of clearing from Sheboygan down to Waukesha this afternoon and allowed for some sunshine!
The breaks in the clouds will fill back in this evening with patchy dense fog redeveloping, primarily inland. With temperatures in the 20s, patchy freezing fog will be a threat once again, especially away from the lake, with slick spots possible on any untreated surfaces. Bridges and overpasses will be most susceptible to black ice formation, so travel with caution tonight through the Monday morning commute. A Dense Fog Advisory is in place for all inland counties beginning at 6 pm this evening and running through noon on Monday.
Mainly quiet and cloudy weather is expected during the day on Monday, but a trough will swing through the state in the evening and bring a band of light snow across the area. Some freezing drizzle may mix in with the light snow as well.
Snow will be light and pass through rather quickly with only a light coating of snow expected.
More small chances for flurries and sprinkles are possible Wednesday and Thursday, but no major systems are on the horizon. Download the CBS 58 Ready Weather App to track the fog tonight and light snow on Monday.
