Packers choose not to place franchise tag on Shields, Raji

GREEN BAY - For the fourth straight season, Ted Thompson has elected not to use a franchise tag on any of his impending free agents, including CB Sam Shields and DL B.J. Raji.

Both players can begin negotiating with other teams on March 8th, but deals can't be announced until March 11th.

Shields has 13 career interceptions and plays a position the Packers would like to upgrade. The Packers have an abundance of cap space and are rumored to be looking to sign a few free agents this offseason, an uncharacteristic move for GM Ted Thompson.

Thompson has not placed a franchise tag on any player in the last four years.
