Gov. Evers weighs in on odds of signing bill legalizing online sports betting
CBS 58 MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One day after state lawmakers advanced a bill that would legalize online sports betting in Wisconsin, Governor Tony Ever says, right now, the odds of him signing that bill are not good.
Right now, sports betting is allowed in-person at tribal casinos that offer it.
The Senate Tuesday, March 17, joined the Assembly in pass a bill that would legalize online sports gambling, as long as bets are made through a tribal casino.
The bill now goes to Governor Evers, who this morning said he will only sign it if all 11 of the state's tribes are in agreement on how online betting would work.
"I'm hopeful that we can get something done, but I also am very concerned about the fact that, apparently, not all of the tribal nations are with this, but I have some time to check that out," said Governor Evers.
CBS 58 reached out the Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk and Oneida Nations to see where they stand on the bill.
