OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A family speaks out a year after their beloved mother was tragically killed in a rollover crash on an intersection that has had a number of serious and fatal crashes over the years.

"She loved them beyond everything, that her whole world was about loving them and being the best mom that she could possibly be," said Shane Dunn in a sit-down interview with CBS 58 News.

Dunn said his love story with Molly was like a fairytale.

"We met when she was 16...but it wasn't until you know, 15 years later, or whatever, that we then met again," he explained.

Molly Dunn is described as an unstoppable superhero who handled everything.

"She was very dedicated to the family, to being honest and genuine, to a fault at times," he went on to say.

The biological mother of four-year-old twins Arcata and Brighton, and stepmom who helped raise 16-year-old Isabel and 16-year-old Nadia.

"She was the best mom that anybody could ever ask for," said Brighton Dunn.

"She passed the day before my birthday," added Isabel Dunn. "I still hear her voice, like, I can still picture her face...sometimes I forget that she's not going to be home when I get home."

Nadia Dunn, who just now finished her first year in college, said Molly was instrumental in helping her transition to that next chapter in her life.

"She just knew a lot about a lot of things and, she was just kind of talking me through like, everything, making sure I was hitting all the deadlines," she said.

Molly Dunn was 38 years old when she was killed on April 18, 2022, driving between the intersection of Highway 67 and CW.

According to the criminal complaint, Chauncey Brown, 29, was driving a red Mitsubishi SUV at 40 MPH when he got distracted on his phone and ran a red stop sign. The Pewaukee man crashed into Dunn's blue Honda Odyssey minivan, which was coming northbound, and caused the van to rollover multiple times. The complaint also states that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident and was ejected from her seat. Police said Molly Dunn died at the scene.

The twin boys were also inside the van at the time of the accident and remember parts of what happened. They both suffered injuries to their necks and were immediately rushed to the hospital. Arcata had a serious temporary lung collapse as well.

Brown is charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle and reckless driving causing injury. He is scheduled to appear in court next Thursday.

In the meantime, the Dunn family said even a year later, community support has meant the world, and they are learning to be advocates to make a difference.

"We need people to be paying more attention to driving safer," said Shane Dunn. "I think he's going to face consequences without the judicial system, you know, I think this is going to weigh on him his whole life."
